Guests are Invited to the Owner's Apple Orchard, Farm Winery

30 years ago, the Vittori family, owners of the Garden Gables Inn, purchased this historic property in nearby Richmond, just a few minutes away on the other side of the Lenox Ridge. Sister and brother owners, Wendy and John Vittori, are proud to support the preservation of open spaces and the rich farm heritage of the Berkshire Hills, just a short drive from the Inn, in neighboring Richmond.  Located on a south-facing slope of the Taconic ridge of the Berkshires hills, our property offers sweeping views to the south and east - overlooking the Lenox Ridge with visibility down into the town of West Stockbridge.  Our winery is named after the "Furnace Brook" that springs from our property, and powered the historic Richmond Furnace ironworks.

We grow over 30 varieties of apples - including heritage varieties that go back to the beginning of our property as an orchard, over 100 years ago.  Furnace Brook Winery was founded 20 years ago, as the first farm winery in the Berkshires.  We developed a distinctive hard cider - actually a wine - "Johnny Mash" - as a traditional New England cider based on our own, native New England apple varieties.  We also offer a range of red and white grape-based wines, with grapes sourced from other growers, primarily from the Northeast, and more recently we have added several popular varietals from California.  Again, using our cold-pressed fresh apple cider, we produce a French-style apple cidre, and a delicious late-harvest Apple Ice Wine.  Many of our offerings have been winners at the annual "Big E" competition.

Enjoy the Open Spaces - we open our property for you to enjoy over 3 miles of x-country trails—professionally designed by Olympian John Morton—that offer beautiful 20-mile views and wooded glens.  In season enjoy beautiful views and pick-your-own apples, snowshoeing and hiking, which are complimentary for Garden Gables Inn guests. Snowshoe equipment is available for rent at the farm store building.
