eco-friendly at Garden Gables in Lenox, MA rich history at Garden Gables in Lenox, MA
Creating an environment that is sustainable and healthy is integral to our values. We preserved the 200 acres of farmland at our Hilltop Orchards and are dedicated to using green-friendly practices here at the Inn.  GreenLeader Silver Award by Trip Advisor.
Rich History
The original house dates to 1780. Ms. Kate Carey, a NYC resident who loved horses, established her summer estate on the property in the early 1900s, and moved the original structure, which she named "Butternut Cottage" from further down Main Street.  She added on additional rooms for her guests.  Transitioning to a guest house after World War II, the Garden Gables Inn of today represents a trip through the centuries, updated with the conveniences and style of a gracious, 21st century New England country home.
Guests are Invited to the Owner's Apple Orchard and Farm Winery
In 1987 the Vittori family acquired the 200-acre Hilltop Orchards property in nearby Richmond - a scenic 20-minute drive from the Inn. With the goal of preserving open spaces of the Berkshires through the pursuit of sustainable, family-farm agriculture,  we grow over twenty varieties of apples, including a number that are heritage New England varieties.  Furnace Brook Winery was established by the Vittoris as the first farm winery in the Berkshires, and offers year-round tasting of its award wining hard ciders and wines. Inn guests are treated to complimentary wine-tasting, and - in season - pick-your-own apples, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking on our woodland trails - designed by Olympian, John Morton.
